So you might think this page is dead......

You would be wrong.

A new idea has occurred to me....an idea that is far better than what I was envisioning...

Something that no one has done before to my knowledge....

Something very unique....

Stay tuned....

I would like to proudly announce our first fundraiser!  Er...well...its more of a "Get a cookie for a donation" event, but fundraiser just sounds better.

My lovely wife, Kiniska Vanck, will be attending the Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, OH April 26th through the 28th.  There she will be displaying her portfolio of fantasy and steampunk artwork.  She will also have a donation jar there describing our plans for Building Vanck Castle.  If you leave a donation, then you get a cookie and help build a castle!  Sounds like a good deal doesn't it?

The weather has been playing havoc with our plans for building Vanck Castle.  First, it seemed that winter would never end and now spring wants to drown us out.  Our contact who handles excavations and such has been so busy he hasn’t been able to stop by to deliver the rock we ordered or look at our potential building site to work up an estimate.  However, we have some movement on the funding front.  I will post more on that tomorrow.

Now this gives me some ideas......Restormel Castle in Cornwall in England

Patience.

That word has come to mean a lot more to me in the last few years.  I use it here now to let everyone know that while the blog may be quiet, plans are still going on.  Life just has a way of interrupting sometimes.

That said, I am in a holding pattern until the weather warms up and dries up before any substantial work can be done.  However, I have some other ideas to help keep this page active while I plot out the next steps.

Patience

So that everyone can get a visual in their mind going forward, here is a picture of where we plan to build.  The area is about 30 ft x 50 ft (ish) and at one time was the site of a house.  That house was destroyed by a tornado in the 70's, but the foundation is still there.  The trees and shrubs have grown up around the remains.

One of the remains of the house is an old cistern.  The cistern has caved in on one side and is unsafe.  By removing this, we can prevent any injuries to people and wildlife.  So this part of the construction was going to happen anyway.  Once it is dug up, we will have a nice clear area to build on.

What we plan on building, will be the topic of a future post.

I here by declare on March 7, 2013 that Building Vanck Castle is up and running!

The purpose of this blog is to detail our thoughts and activities in regards to building a fantasy themed event space on our property in Southern Indiana.  This idea came about as we were building our home/hobby farm in the last two years.  Oh, and by building our home, I mean that we did the work ourselves with the help of family and friends.  Surprisingly enough, everyone is still talking with each other!

Now that the house is mostly finished, my wife and I have been talking about other potential projects.  The concept of having a large building on the property where others could gather for games and costumed events kept coming up.  As this could be a potential small business, the idea has gained more and more attention from us.  While we are unsure of what type of building we want to construct, we definitely want to build something.

Thus this blog has been created.  We are going to share details on what types of construction are available and any ideas that may occur to us.  At the same time, we want any interested individuals to follow us along and to share this site with others.  We are always open to ideas and there will be some interesting things that we will like to share.

So please check back from time to time and see how we are progressing on Building Vanck Castle!
